Wrestling opens season at Messiah Invitiational

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Ursinus took fifth place in the Messiah Wrestling Invitational on Saturday with a team score of 52.  Messiah won the by a large margin with a score of 112.5 in the eight team tournament.

Senior 133 pounder Alex Blank (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) took second place in his bracket, defeating Matt Gusick of Messiah in the first round 8-4, then defeated Jake Vitolo of Waynesburg by a score of 7-4.  He then defeated Joe Kidwell of Coast Guard by a score of 8-1.  In the title bout, he lost to Kaleb Loht of Messiah by a score of 4-3.  

Sophmore 141 pounder Elisha Gaylor (West Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) defeated freshman 141 pounder Nick Dimuzio (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin High School) in the consolation bracket to take third place.  Elisha lost to Aaron Mills in the final bout by a score of 4-3.

Junior 184 pounder Mike Kevlin (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianny) lost his first match of his bracket to Eldar Muradov of UMBC, but went on to defeat his next four opponents on his way to taking third place.  The final bout ended with a pin of Patrick Leavitt of Coast Guard in 2:10.

Ursinus hosts the Fall Brawl this coming Saturday.
