Ursinus sweeps Muhlenberg, W&L

ALLENTOWN, Pa.- The Ursinus College wrestling team swept a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon defeating both Washington & Lee and host Muhlenberg. In the first match, the Bears defeated the Generals by a 43-6 score, before defeating Muhlenberg in the nightcap 37-6. The match with McDaniel was postponed, as icy conditions prevented the Green Terror from making it to Allentown. That match will be made up next Saturday.

In the opener of Saturday's action, senior 125 pounder LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George School) registered a forfeit win, as did junior 133 pounder Alex Blank (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) which gave Ursinus a quick 12-0 lead.

At 141 pounds, Sam Campbell eeked out a 3-2 decision over freshman Elisha Gaylor (West Reading, Pa./Wyomissing), before Ursinus got a major decision from sophomore Curtis Watkins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) at 149 pounds over Eric Fessel by a 14-5 score.

Ursinus won the next two bouts, starting with a 6-0 decision by junior 149 pounder Connor McCormick  (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) over H.T. Kotchinian followed by a pin in 2:03 from sophomore Andrew Corbett (Pittsgrove, N.J./Shalick) at 165 pounds over Brian Ross.

W&L scored its final points of the match at 174 as Daniel Igel defeated sophomore William Reick (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) 7-3.

The final three bouts were all forfeit wins for Ursinus with senior Nate Murren (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) winning at 184, sophomore Teddy Conrad (Doylestown, Pa./C.B.West) at 197, and sophomore Wiliam Cornely (Cinnaminson, N.J./Camden Catholic) at heavyweight.

Against Muhlenberg, Lightwood-Mater and Blank started off the match with forfeit wins, followed by a win from Gaylor 10-2 over Matt Parker. Watkins had a forfeit win at 149, before Keith Swanson defeated Matt Generotti, 4-1 at 157.

At 165, Patrick Gibson defeated Danny Schwartz, 9-4, before Ursinus won the next four matches. Sophomore Michael Kevlin won by forfeit at 174, with Murren taking a 5-0 win over Bill Sholly at 184. Conrad scored a forfeit at 197, with Cornely defeating Nick Pallotta at heavyweight, 4-2.
