Wrestling goes 4-0 at North/South Duals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus opened up the dual meet season on Saturday, by hosting the annual North/South Duals. The Bears posted a perfect 4-0 record, as the defeated Morrisville State 37-10, Hunter 30-13, MIT, 32-15 and Coast Guard Academy 37-12.

Against Morrisville, standout performances included junior Connor McCormick (148) (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), senior Nate Murren (184) (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown), and freshman Taylor Gload (197) (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township). McCormick pinned his opponent at 2:15 in the first period, while Murren defeated his opponent by major decision (13-0). Gload's match came down to the final seconds of the third period where he scored a two-point takedown to win the match 4-3.

Against Hunter, sophomore Connor Gregory (125) (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) started the meet by quickly pinning his opponent 1:50. Junior 133-pounder Alex Blank (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) followed with a 3-1 win. After Hunter won the next four weight classes to take a 13-9 lead, Ursinus took the lead for good when Gload pinned his opponent at 4:40 in the second period.

Against MIT, Sophomore Curtis Watkins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) won his match at 141 by technical fall defeating 21-4. McCormick improved his record today to 2-1 in a 9-2 major decision with Murren collecting his third win of the day via a 9-3 decision.

Against the Coast Guard Academy, the bears collected three first round falls in a row beginning when Blank pinned his opponent at 2:26. Watkins followed as he picked up his third win of the day with a pin at 1:03. McCormick also pinned his opponent 2:58. Murren, nearing his 100th win, beat his opponent , 12-0.  The meet ended as both Gload (197) and senior heavyweight Ed Minelli (Hull, Mass./Xavierian Brothers) pinned their opponents at 2:18 and 4:51 respectively.
