Wrestling 12th at Citrus Open

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Ursinus College wrestling team spent the Christmas break wrestling at the Citrus Open. The team finished 12th with 28.5 points.

Sophomore Curtis Watkins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) finished fifth, with senior Nate Murren (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) finishing sixth.

Watkins began his journey in the 141 pound weight class with a bye, before falling to Justin Koob of Augsburg by a 6-3 score. In the consolation bracket, he defeated Greg Ryan by pin in 5:48, then defeated Will Keeter of Augsburg 10-5.

He moved on in the wrestlebacks by making quick work of Taylor Yoder of Mount Union by pin in 32 seconds. In the consolation semis, he lost to Josh Malave of Mount Union 5-2, before defeating Steven Baker 14-9 in the fifth place match.

Mullen started off in the 184 bracket with a pin of Alex Krautkramer of Augsburg in 3:43, before beating Christopher Dean of RIC 3-0.

After falling to Bryan Steinmetz of John Carroll 6-5, he defeated Kohl Knutson of the Colorado School of Mines 9-2. After defeating Stefen Firmstone of W&J 3-0, he fell to Ryan Swanson of the Colorado School of Mines 5-2. In the fifth place match, he lost to Andy Jenkins of Mount Union by medical default.
