Women's Lax Dropped at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Abby Goldstein scored a pair of goals as the Ursinus women's lacrosse team fell 19-3 to No. 25 Haverford at Swan Field.

The nationally ranked Fords (10-4, 4-3) scored ten unanswered first-half goals before Goldstein's free-position shot got the Bears (3-10, 1-6) on the board with 3:40 remaining in the first half. Goldstein registered her second tally, her 14th goal of the season, in the second half. Freshman Katherine Eckhoff assisted on Goldstein's goal.

Later in the second half, senior Taylor DeBarnardi scored off a pass from sophomore Haley O'Malley for the Bears' final score of the game.

Haverford held an 11-1 advantage at the end of the first 30 minutes of play as it held sizeable possession and shots edges. In the first half, Haverford outshot Ursinus 18-7, with 15 of those efforts going on net compared to five for the Bears.

The Fords continued scoring in the second half and ripped 30 total shots compared to 12 from the Bears in the game. The Bears struggled on clearances, turning the ball over on half of their dozen chances.

Senior Molly Lausten paced the Fords on Senior Day by scoring four goals in the first half and picked up two assists in the second stanza. Kate Sollee and Olivia DiRienz each recorded hat tricks; DiRienz scored all of her three goals in the second half, and Julia Manetta collected four assists on the day.

Goalie Rachel Romens (9-3) earned the win, allowing one goal and saving four shots in one half of play.

Ursinus hosts its last home game of the season against Muhlenberg on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
