Women's Lax Wallops Bryn Mawr

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Twelve different players scored goals as the Ursinus College women's lacrosse team routed Bryn Mawr, 21-5, on Wednesday for its first Centennial Conference victory of the season.

Freshman Abby Krasutsky led the way with a career-high four goals for the Bears (3-9, 1-5), who snapped a six-game losing streak with the help of a balanced offense that received contributions from a number of unexpected sources. Freshmen Brittney Bedrossian and Kylie Cherneskie and sophomore Hannah Wolfram all scored their first career goals, and several other Bears more than doubled their previous season output in a highly efficient outing.

Six different players netted multiple goals for Ursinus, with sophomore Haley O'Malley contributing three for her first hat trick of the season. Junior Kaci McNeave paired two goals with two assists, while freshmen Hannah Reape and Carli Heimann joined junior Abby Goldstein with dual markers.

The Bears wasted no time putting the Owls (2-8, 0-6) in a deep hole. Senior Taylor DeBernardi scored on a free-position shot just 32 seconds in, and Heimann added one of her own 45 ticks later.

Bedrossian potted a goal on a nice feed from senior Franny Liberatscioli to make it 3-0, and Krasutsky and Goldstein cashed in on free-position opportunities to open up a 5-0 lead and force a Bryn Mawr timeout at the 24:30 mark of the first half.

Freshman Katherine Eckhoff set up another Goldstein goal four minutes later, and eight-meter conversions from Krasutsky and O'Malley stretched the advantage out further before Krasutsky capped off her first hat-trick with a nice cut through the circle for a 9-0 lead.

Bryn Mawr got on the board, sandwiching markers around another by Heimann that made it 10-1 Bears. Reape posted up a defender before using a spin move to free herself for a top-shelf shot just shy of the 10-minute mark, and McNeave weaved through the Owls' defense for a goal that initiated the mercy-rule rule running clock with 9:30 on the first-half timer.

After Maeve Connelly scored for the second time for Bryn Mawr, Cherneskie went around the right post and snapped a shot into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. McNeave tacked on another with 50 seconds left to put the Bears ahead 14-3 at intermission.

O'Malley found the back of the net 45 seconds into the second stanza to keep the Bears rolling, and finished off her hat trick with 20:05 to play. Krasutsky added a fourth marker during a period that also featured goals by Wolfram, Reape, and sophomore Rachel Dunne.

Maeve Donnelly scored three goals for Bryn Mawr, which played Ursinus to a 14-13 stalemate in draw controls. Claire Hampton finished with five saves.

McNeave racked up a career-high 12 draw controls for the Bears, while senior Jules Krasutsky picked up four ground balls and eight different players caused a turnover. Junior Kaitlyn France (four saves) and freshman Maddy Vaughn (two) split the game between the pipes.

The Bears went 8-for-10 on free-position attempts, resetting the school record of seven established earlier this season against Coast Guard.

Wolfram joined Bedrossian and Heimann in making her first career start.

The Bears take on No. 25 Haverford on the road on Saturday.
