Women's Lacrosse Blanks PSU-Abington

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Four players scored their first career goal as the Ursinus College women's lacrosse team blanked Penn State Abington, 16-0, for its second win in as many days.

Playing at home less than 24 hours after a come-from-behind victory over Coast Guard, the Bears (2-3) showed little fatigue in cruising past the overmatched Nittany Lions. Freshmen Brittney Bedrossian, Carli Heimann, and Alyssa Penny joined sophomore Hannah Wolfram in opening their collegiate accounts, while junior Kaitlyn France and freshman Maddy Vaughn combined for the team's first shutout since 2015.

Junior Emily DiGiorgio scored the first of her three goals just three minutes into the contest, eventually adding two more first-half tallies for her fifth straight hat trick to open the season. Bedrossian's unassisted marker doubled the advantage before senior Taylor DeBernardi accounted for two goals in 50 seconds, scoring herself off a feed from senior Franny Liberatoscioli before setting up junior Kaci McNeave.

Liberatoscioli netted one for herself just 40 seconds after that, and freshman Abby Krasutsky found the back of the net for the second time in as many games to make it 6-0. DiGiorgio sandwiched two more strikes around a goal by freshman Grace Langen as the Bears went into halftime with a 9-0 lead.

Wolfram wasted little time in securing her first career point, bringing on a running clock on an unassisted goal with only 42 seconds gone by in the second stanza. Two more first-time scores followed as McNeave set up Heimann before Penny beat the Abington keeper to make it 12-0 with 14:11 remaining.

Langen added a second goal to her ledger, and junior Abby Goldstein bookended another McNeave goal with two of her own to round out the offensive fireworks.

McNeave finished with two goals and two assists to equal her highest point total in two years, and Liberatoscioli handed out multiple assists for the third time in her career.

Langen scored twice for the second straight day, while DeBernardi had a goal and a helper after a three-goal, two-assist effort against Coast Guard.

Junior Emily Blaszkow collected three draws for Ursinus, which held an 11-5 advantage in that category and outshot the Nittany Lions, 35-9. The Bears were a perfect 14-for-14 on clears.

France finished with four saves and Vaughn added three more in the second half of her debut. Sophomore Rachel Dunne caused a turnover in her first action of the season, and rookie Julia Kohout played in her first game.

The Bears now brace for a week that will see them take on the top two teams in Division III in consecutive games. Ursinus heads to No. 2 TCNJ on Tuesday before opening Centennial Conference play at home against top-ranked and defending national champion Gettysburg on Saturday.
