Bears Hard Fought Effort Falls Short

For the second straight game the Ursinus Women's Lacrosse Team was unable to pull off the upset. This time the Bears took on the number three ranked Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall but fell 15-4.

Sophomore midfielder Natalie Delinsky (Marriottsville, MD) got the scoring started for the Diplomats as she netted a free position shot just under four minutes into the game to give F&M the 1-0 lead. However, less than 30 second later freshmen defensemen Franny Liberatoscoli (Malvern, PA) went coast to coast to tie the game up at 1-1.

From there though the Diplomats went on a six goal scoring run to extend their lead to 7-1 at the break. Less than a minute into the second half freshmen attacker Paige Moriarty (Glen Ridge, BJ) tallied her third goal of the night to extend Franklin & Marshall's lead to 8-1.

Senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, NJ) fired right back with a goal of her own to cut the deficit to 8-2 still in favor of the Diplomats. Sophomore midfielder Amy Kohout (West Deptford, NJ) tallied her third goal in the last two games to make it a 10-3 game but the lead was more than enough for the Diplomats as cruised to the victory.

Freshmen goalie Meaghan Corbin (Danville, Ca.) made her third start consecutive start in net for the Bears and while she is credited with the loss, her second in a row, Corbin turned in an outstanding performance as she recorded 16 saves on the night.

The Diplomats tested her from start to finish throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her to the tune of 37 total shots, 31 of which were on net. Corbin stood tall and proved she was more than capable of competing with the highly ranked and explosive Diplomats offense.

The loss dropped Ursinus to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the Centennial Conference. Meanwhile Franklin & Marshall moved to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Bears will take on McDaniel Saturday, April 18th at 12 PM for Senior Day.
