Women's Lax falls to TCNJ, 18-7

EWING, N.J. – Fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey built a 10-4 halftime lead, then scored the first three goals of the second half in an 18-7 win over Ursinus on Tuesday in a snowy women's lacrosse game in the Garden State.

The Lions (7-0) claimed 17 shots in each half, leading to a 34-16 shooting edge.

Still, Ursinus got two goals from sophomore Devin Brakel and a goal and an assist from freshman Jayme Verman.

Brakel's first goal of the game gave Ursinus a 1-0 lead 1:54 in as she scored her seventh of the season. The Lions would score the next four before senior Nicole Kovacs scored unassisted at 17:38 to get Ursinus back to within two at 4-2.

Ursinus (5-2) would get to within one at 5-4 on back to back goals by freshman Emma Ebert and Brakel, the last coming with 11:11 left in the half. However, the Lions would score the eight to pull away.

Individually, Verman had three draw controls, with senior Caroline Cannon and sophomore Mary Deliberti each getting two. Freshman Lisa Grous scooped up three ground balls on the night.

In goal, sophomore Margaret Philbin made 11 saves.

Ursinus heads to Dickinson on Saturday.
