Women's Lacrosse tripped up by Swarthmore, 12-9

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Ursinus got three goals from junior midfielder Nicole Kovacs (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and two each from freshman midfielder Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) and sophomore Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) but could not overcome an early deficit as the Bears (2-4, 0-1 Centennial) fell to Swarthmore (6-1, 1-0 Centennial) 12-9 on Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse play. 

Ursinus trailed by two in the first half, got to within one 45 seconds into the start of the second half, but could not pull even in their Centennial opener.

Kovacs scored all of her goals in the second half, with her last coming with 10:34 left in the game to get Ursinus within two at 11-9. 

Dawson also picked up three ground balls and had two caused turnovers in the loss, while senior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) also had two caused turnovers on the day.

Senior attack Lauren Garganio (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had a team-high five draw controls, with Brakel getting three. 

In goal, junior Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had six saves as she faced 18 shots.

Ursinus hosts TCNJ on Tuesday night.
