Women's Lacrosse wins home opener, 14-5, over Widener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus got three goals each from freshman midfielder Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West-Windsor Plainsboro) and junior midfielder Nicole Kovacs (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) as the Bears (1-2) downed Widner (2-1) 14-5 in women's lacrosse play on Wednesday night from a frigid Patterson Field.

Sophomore midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), junior attack Amber Moyer (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and freshman defender Eden Abrams (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) each had two goals for the Bears, who held Widener to just one goal in the second half en route to their first win of the year.

Widener got two goals from Julia Costello and a goal and assist from Pinky Schneider.

Ursinus scored the first four goals of the game, then scored the last six of the second half to take the victory.

Individually, Brakel finished with four ground balls and three draw controls, while freshman midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) added in three draw controls.

Senior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) had two caused turnovers.

In goal, freshman Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) got the win as she saved five in the first half, then junior Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) saved three in the second half.
