COLLEGEVILLE, PA. – Senior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored five goals including the 100th of her career as Ursinus (4-1, 1-0 Centennial) fended off Swarthmore 16-9 on Saturday at Patterson Field in the Centennial Conference opener for both women's lacrosse squads.
Thren hit the century mark 1:36 into the game as Ursinus scored the first two goals of the contest.
Freshman midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had three goals, as did junior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin).
Senior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had two goals and two assists, while senior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) had two goals.
For Swarthmore, junior midfielder Annalise Penikis had five goals and two assists to lead the Garnet (3-2, 0-1 Centennial).
After Ursinus scored the first two goals, Swarthmore went on a 4-0 of their own to take a short 4-2 lead as Penikis scored two goals during the run.
Trailing 5-3, Ursinus scored the next three to go up one, before Swarthmore counted wth a goal at 11:20 to knot the game at 6-all.
From there Ursinus pushed across four straight goals and had a 10-6 lead three minutes into the second half and never looked back.
Thren finished with seven draw controls, while Chatburn had four ground balls.
In goal, freshman Alexandra Duch (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) had seven saves, while sophomore Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had seven in the second half.
