COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team got its 2012 season underway Thursday with a 19-8 win over local rival Eastern (0-1) on a wind-swept Patterson Field.

Senior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had a game-high seven goals to lead the Bears, while going a perfect 4-for-4 on free position goals. Senior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) chipped in with four goals of her own, with junior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) scoring three. 

Senior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) had three assists as the Bears had 38 shots in the game.

Ursinus actually trailed 2-1 early on before going on a 5-0 run and never looked back. In the second half, Ursinus outscored Eastern 10-3.

Peifer scooped up nine draw controls, with Chatburn getting four ground balls. 

In goal, freshman Alexandra Duch (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) made six saves in the first half, with sophomore Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) making three in the second.

Ursinus goes to Albright on Tuesday.
