Women's Lacrosse upended by McDaniel, 8-7 in OT

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel sophomore midfielder Paige Messersmith scored a goal with 36 seconds left in the first overtime as the Green Terror (2-12, 2-7 CC) defeated Ursinus (6-8, 4-3 Centennial) 8-7 Saturday afternoon in heavy wind and rain at Scott Bair Stadium.

Messersmith scored the game-tying goal with 2:32 left in the second half to force overtime as McDaniel scored seven of their eight goals via free position shots.

For Ursinus, senior midfielder Allison Furman (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had three goals and two assists, with junior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) netting two goals.

Trailing 2-0 early, Ursinus went on a three-goal spurt with Furman scoring back-to-back goals to tie the game at 2-all with 18:37 left, before Diehl's free position shot with 17:51 left gave Ursinus a 3-2 lead.

Ursinus took a 4-3 lead into intermission as sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) scored her ninth goal of the season with 5:21 left on an assist by Furman.

McDaniel would rally to tie the score at 5-all with 12 minutes remaining in the game, before Ursinus would again go up by two as Furman and senior attack Lindsey Urban (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) scored goals. Urban's goal with 9:03 left gave Ursinus a 7-5 lead.

Junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had six ground balls in the loss and five draw controls.

Freshman goalkeeper Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had five saves in the loss.
