COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sixth-ranked Gettysburg scored five straight goals in the first half as the Bullets (9-2, 6-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (6-6, 4-2 Centennial) 14-7 on Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse play.

The Bears were tied with the Bullets at 3-all with 13:11 left before Gettysburg pulled away. From that point, Ursinus got four several times but could not close the gap.

Hannah Church had four goals and one assist for the Bullets, while Lindsey Robinson had three goals and an assist.

For Ursinus, junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had five goals, with junior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) adding in two.

Both teams traded goals early on, as Ursinus got goals from Peifer and Thren, with Thren's coming with 21:27 left in the first half for a 2-2 tie. Thren added her second goal of the game at 13:11 for the 3-all tie.

Gettysburg then pulled away as Church scored back-to-back goals at 12:53 and 11:43 left for a  5-3 lead, followed by goals from Lindsay Menton, Kelsey Markiewicz and Marnie Commins. Thren scored a goal for Ursinus with just five seconds remaining in the half, as Ursinus went into intermission down 8-4.

In the second half, Thren scored a goal just 1:06 in and one goal with 9:49 left in regulation.

Ursinus had two goalkeepers split time as freshman Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had two saves in the first half, with sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Kimmel (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) making four in the second half. Thren had five ground balls and three draw controls for Ursinus, with Thren and senior attack Emily Hummel netting two caused turnovers. Hummel also had three draw controls.

For Gettysburg, Mairead McGuirk had seven draw controls, with goalkeeper Maddie Coleman getting five ground balls and ten saves.
