Women's Lacrosse drops close match to seventh-ranked F&M, 11-9

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team gave seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall all it had on Wednesday afternoon, as the Diplomats rallied to defeat the Bears (6-5, 4-1 Centennial) 11-9 at Tylus Field. The Bears (6-5, 4-1 Centennial) opened up a 5-2 lead on the Dips, and were tied 8-8 with less than ten minutes to go before F&M scored two straight goals to take their biggest lead of the game at 10-8.

Ursinus scored with 3:49 left to cut the deficit to 10-9, but, F&M added on one goal with just 1:57 left for the win.

For Ursinus, junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tallied three goals, moving her season total up to 35. Senior midfielder Allison Furman (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had two goals and two assists, while senior attack Lindsey Urban (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) had two goals.

Junior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) and sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) each scored a goal in the loss.

F&M was led by Erin Dunne and Cat Serpe with two goals each, with Lauren Selawski chipping in three assists.

Ursinus got on the board first as Thren scored with 21:17 left in the first half on a free position shot. On the ensuing possession, F&M tied the score at 1-all on a goal by Caroline Krohn. F&M took a 2-1 lead at 17:57 as Dunne took the draw control and got to Serpe, who scored. F&M looked to take a 3-1 lead on a free position shot with 13:49 left, but, it was saved by freshman goalkeeper Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley). Pembroke would factor into

Ursinus' second goal of the game as she forced a turnover with 12:55 left, which Ursinus then cleared. Urban scored with 10:59 left on an assist by Furman to tie the score at 2-all. Ursinus went up 3-2 at 7:07 left in the first as following a Pembroke save, Chatburn scored on Ursinus' offensive possession. The Bears went up 4-2 with 4:15 left as Furman scored off of a failed F&M clear. F&M would turn the ball over following the draw control, which allowed Urban to score off of a free position goal with 2:14 left for a 5-2. A goal with four seconds left, by F&M's Lauren Ehrhardt, cut the Diplomat deficit to 5-3 at halftime.

The two teams would trade goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, before F&M took their first lead of the half at 7-6 with 16:28 left on a goal by Dunne. Ursinus tied the score for the last time at 8-all with 10:27 left on a free position goal by Thren.

Individually, Thren had four groundballs with freshman midfielder Caroline Cannon (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) netting two draw controls. Pembroke had six saves in the loss.

It doesn't get any easier for Ursinus, as the Bears take on sixth-ranked Gettysburg at home Saturday starting at noon.
