Women's Lacrosse freezes Washington, 12-5

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – After giving up the first goal of the game against Washington, Ursinus rattled off seven straight goals as the Bears (5-4, 3-0 Centennial) defeated the Shorewomen (7-2, 1-2 Centennial) 12-5 on Wednesday afternoon in women's lacrosse conference play.

The Bears got three goals from junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) who also had two assists, while junior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had two goals and two assists in the win.

Thren and Peifer scored two goals each during the seven goal run, with Peifer scoring back-to-back goals at 11:56 and 11:07. The run was capped by a goal from Thren with 1:22 left for a 7-1 edge.

Washington was led by sophomore attack Corinne Ziccardi who had two goals. Ursinus grew the lead to as large as seven in the second half.

In goal, freshman Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had nine saves, with Shorewomen goalkeeper Stephanie Seibert making seven saves.

Individually, sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) had three caused turnovers for Ursinus, with freshman midfielder Caroline Cannon (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) and senior attack Emily Hummel (Lumberton, N.J./Moorestown Friends) each getting three draw controls.

Senior midfielder Allison Furman (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had four ground balls.

Ursinus hosts Bryn Mawr Saturday at noon.
