Women's Lacrosse scores late to beat Dickinson, 8-7

CARLISLE, Pa. – Ursinus College junior midfielder Alyssa Thren's (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored a free position goal with 1:30 left in the game as the Bears (4-4, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Dickinson (4-6, 1-1 Centennial) 8-7 on Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse play.

Thren's goal, her fifth of the game, came following a clear with 3:22 left in the game. Ursinus then got the ensuing draw control and Dickinson, despite causing two turnovers, could not get a shot off in the final 90 seconds of the game.

Ursinus did have an early 4-1 lead with 9:38 left in the first half, before Dickinson rallied with three straight goals to tie the score at 4-all with 24 minutes left in the game.

Again, Ursinus went up by three goals in the second half only to see Dickinson come right back and tie the score.

Junior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) finished the game for the Bears with two goals and an assist, with freshman midfielder Caroline Cannon (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) also throwing in a goal. Senior midfielder Allison Furman (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had an assist.

Defensively, Cannon had four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Thren picked up two draw controls. The Bears were a perfect 5-for-5 on free position shots.

In goal, freshman Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) made eight saves in the win.

Ursinus will host Washington on Wednesday.
