Women's Lacrosse falls to Roanoke, 14-11

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team dropped its first game during a two-game Spring Break trip to South Carolina, falling to Roanoke (3-0) 14-11 Monday morning.

Ursinus (1-1) was led by junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) who tallied five goals, with senior midfielder Allison Furman (Glibertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scoring three. Junior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), senior attack Lindsey Urban (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and junior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) each had a goal in the loss. Peifer added in an assist.

The Maroons were led by Kathleen Wager who scored four times, with Gina Valles adding in three goals and two assists.

A 6-1 Roanoke scoring run over a eight minute span in the last 10:31 of the first half was the difference as Roanoke had a 9-5 lead after the run was over. Ursinus fought back to within two at 9-7 on a goal by Peifer with 1:02 left, but, the Bears trailed 10-7 at intermission and could not get within three the rest of the way.

Defensively, Ursinus led by Furman and Thren who had five groundballs each. Thren was a perfect 4-for-4 on free position shots and had five draw controls. She also added in four caused turnovers.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Emma Bacharach (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) had nine saves in 30 minutes, while sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Kimmel (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added in two saves in the second half.

Ursinus will take on Lynchburg Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach.
