McGarrigle Tops Leaderboard After CC Day 1

LANCASTER, Pa. – Emily McGarrigle sat atop the leaderboard as the Ursinus College women's golf team concluded the first day of the Centennial Conference championship in third place.

McGarrigle carded a 9-over 79 on the 5801-yard course at Conestoga Country Club, finishing the afternoon tied with Marymount's Alessandra Bertacche for first place.

Ursinus totaled 373 strokes on the day, 21 behind first-place Gettysburg and just two back of Dickinson in second. The Bears are 12 shots clear of Marymount and Muhlenberg in fourth. Ursinus' team score marks the third-best CC championship round in program history.

McGarrigle's 79 is the best score ever for an Ursinus golfer at the conference championship. The junior, who finished 10th two years ago, birdied the par-4 13th hole en route to a 38 on the back nine. She had eight pars for the round, putting herself in prime position to challenge for the individual title.

Junior Rebecca Chiger is tied for 13th with a 94. Chiger birdied the par-4 seventh hole and made bogey or better on 11 holes.

Senior Sarah Thompson carded a 96 to sit tied for 17th, logging three pars and eight bogeys.

In her first taste of championship golf, senior Meaghan Corbin finished with a 104. She made par on the par-3 11th hole and tallied five bogeys, four of them in the midst of a 48 on the back nine.

Senior Shelby Bryant completed the round in 134 strokes, which included a bogey on the par-3 15th hole.

The CC championship concludes Sunday with a noon tee time.
