Women's Golf Wins Muhlenberg Invite

Women's Golf Wins Muhlenberg Invite

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – For the second time in three days, the Ursinus College women's golf team won a tiebreaker with Muhlenberg. This time, it was for top prize.

The Bears finished in a deadlock with the Mules at 383, but were awarded the team crown on a fifth-player tiebreaker. Sophomore Alissa DiGuglielmo was the difference, just by showing up – Muhlenberg only brought four golfers, so DiGuglielmo's presence clinched the title for Ursinus.

Neumann finished in a distant third at 516, with Delaware Valley and Keystone fielding incomplete squads.

The tournament was remarkably similar to Tuesday's Ursinus Invitational. There, Ursinus and Muhlenberg were knotted for second at 370, and the Bears grabbed the runner-up trophy on a random tiebreaker that compared scores for the third player in each team's lineup.

Additionally, Muhlenberg's Aine Filler took home medalist honors by edging an Ursinus golfer by a single stroke. That time it was junior Rebecca Chiger; on Thursday, it was Emily McGarrigle.

McGarrigle shot an 87 on the 5835-yard track at Lehigh Country Club, finishing one shot back of Filler's 86. The junior registered par on six holes.

Chiger, fresh off her second-place effort in her season debut, came back with a 91 to finish fourth overall. She scored birdie on the par-3 seventh hole and recorded four pars.

Senior Sarah Thompson placed sixth with a 95, recording five pars, and classmate Meaghan Corbin tallied a 110.

DiGuglielmo turned in by far the best round of her green collegiate career, scoring 156 to lower her previous career best by 23 strokes; she shot 198 in her debut and 179 in her next round before Thursday's latest improvement. DiGuglielmo made par – the first of her career – on the par-5 18th hole.

The Bears conclude the regular season with the Arcadia Invitational at Cedarbrook Country Club on Monday.
