Chiger Shines in Women's Golf Debut

ELVERSON, Pa. – Rebecca Chiger's sensational season debut lifted the Ursinus College women's golf team to a runner-up showing at its annual spring invitational at Stonewall on Tuesday.

Chiger carded an 83 to finish one shot behind Muhlenberg's Aine Filler for medalist honors, and the junior's successful lid-lifter helped the Bears match the Mules with a team tally of 370 – just three strokes back of Alvernia for the group crown. Ursinus was awarded second place on a random tiebreaker.

With Chiger back in the fold, Ursinus posted its lowest score of the season by a whopping 24 strokes. Fellow junior Emily McGarrigle fired an 86 to place in a tie for fourth and make the Bears the only team in the field with a pair of top-five finishers.

Senior Sarah Thompson landed in 11th place in a field of 31 golfers with a 94, and classmate Meaghan Corbin shot 107.

The Bears conclude their regular-season spring slate at the Arcadia Invitational on Monday, April 16.
