McGarrigle Shatters School Record at UC Fall Invite

POTTSTOWN, Pa. – Emily McGarrigle carded a school-record 74 to headline the Ursinus College women's golf team's performance at its annual fall invitational on Tuesday.

McGarrigle set a program mark with five birdies and added eight pars to shatter the previous team record of 80 that she shared with classmate Rebecca Chiger. The junior, who eclipsed her previous career best by two strokes, finished one shot behind Penn State-Harrisburg's Allison Cooper in the individual standings.

McGarrigle's 74 is tied for the third-lowest score in Centennial Conference history. McDaniel's Kelly Cramp shot 74 twice in 2004 and carded a 72 in 2003, a league mark later matched by Gettysburg's Samantha Sessa in 2014.

The Bears brought only three golfers to Raven's Claw Golf Club and thus were ineligible for the team trophy, won by Millersville with a cumulative tally of 319. The Marauders placed four of its entrants in the top eight and ties to surpass second-place Alvernia by 28 shots.

McGarrigle birdied the second, fourth, and eighth holes – all par-4s – on the front nine before coming into the clubhouse with a 36 on the back, which included birdies on the par-4 16th and 18th holes. McGarrigle had shot 80 in a dual match with Gettysburg in the spring of 2016, while Chiger did so at the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic the previous fall.

Senior Sarah Thompson tied for eighth place overall with a career-best 84. She posted six pars and a birdie on the par-4 12th hole to nip her previous personal benchmark of 85, which she attained at last year's Centennial Conference championship and at the season-opening Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational.

Senior Meaghan Corbin rounded out the Bears' contingent with a 96, a nine-stroke improvement from her collegiate debut. Corbin posted par on the par-4 8th and 18th holes.

The women's golf team is back in action at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday.
