Women's Golf Wins Title in Fall Opener

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Ursinus College women's golf team started the fall season in the strongest of fashions, capturing the title at the Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational on Sunday.

Senior Sarah Thompson matched her collegiate low with an 85 at Rock Manor Golf Club to finish runner-up and help the Bears card a cumulative score of 394 and claim their sixth title in the last three seasons. Thompson's other 85 came during the first round of the Centennial Conference championship a year ago.

The tournament ultimately functioned as a dual match with Neumann, which compiled a score of 554. Muhlenberg had two of the top three finishers, including individual medalist Kat Hodges (82), but did not bring a fourth golfer and thus did not qualify for the team title.

Junior Emily McGarrigle was right behind Thompson with an 87 to land in fourth place.

Senior Meaghan Corbin shot a 105 in her first collegiate action, and classmate Shelby Bryant carded a 117.

The Bears return to the links on September 26, when they host their annual fall invitational at Raven's Claw Golf Club.
