Chiger Named All-CC in Women's Golf

LANCASTER, Pa. – Rebecca Chiger put a bow on a sensational freshman season with a historic honor.

Chiger, a first-year member of the Ursinus College women's golf team, became the first student-athlete in program history to earn All-Centennial Conference recognition after her impressive performance at last weekend's conference championship.

Chiger finished tied for fifth overall in a field of 29 golfers to qualify for all-conference honors, which is awarded to the top five and ties. She registered a two-day total of 175 (85-90), establishing new school records for lowest overall score and single-round score (85) at the conference tournament. Chiger and fellow freshman Emily McGarrigle, who tied for 10th with a 182, became the first Ursinus women's golfers to place inside the top 10 overall at the league championship since 2002.

As a team, the Bears notched their highest finish ever at the CC tournament, coming in third and landing just four strokes back of second-place McDaniel. Ursinus' two-round tally of 732 (368-364) was the best in program history at the championship by a whopping 119 strokes.

The rookie's remarkable campaign also included a pair of program records at the fall Revolutionary Collegiate Classic, where she carded an 80 and a two-day score of 168. Chiger's single-round score was eventually matched by McGarrigle in a dual match with Gettysburg on April 17.

Chiger posted a scoring average of 89.00 during the regular season, good for sixth in the CC.
