Women's Golf 2nd After First Round of CC Championship

STEVENS, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's golf team will go into Sunday's final round of the Centennial Conference championship within striking distance of five-time defending champion Gettysburg.

The Bears finished with a team total of 368 (+80), just 11 strokes back of the first-place Bullets with 18 holes to play at Foxchase Golf Club. McDaniel (372) was right behind in third, followed by Muhlenberg (384) and Dickinson (395).

Ursinus' team score was easily its best ever at the conference tournament, outdistancing the previous low by a full 60 strokes.

The Bears had three golfers within the top 10 and ties when the dust settled, led by an 85 (+13) from freshman Rebecca Chiger, good for a tie for third. Chiger carded six pars in addition to birdies on the par-4 10th and par-4 16th.

Freshman Emily McGarrigle is tied for sixth after shooting a 90 on Saturday, which included five pars. Fellow first-year Matison Leand shot a 93 with two pars and a birdie on the par-3 13th hole.

Sophomore Sara Thompson shot a 100, and senior Rebecca Honor carded a 101.

Gettysburg's Sarah Hansen tops the individual leaderboard after shooting 82, two strokes ahead of Muhlenberg's Aine Filler. Chiger is knotted with defending champion Samantha Sessa of Gettysburg, three strokes out of the lead.

Ursinus, which has never finished higher than fourth at the CC championship, will try to catch the Bullets in Sunday's second and final round.
