Women's Golf Shatters School Record in Final CC Tune-Up

STEVENS, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's golf team will go into next week's Centennial Conference championship in tip-top form after shattering the school record for team score in Sunday's dual match with Gettysburg. The Bears carded a 344, a full 11 strokes better than the previous mark set during the fall, and fell only 10 shots shy of the five-time defending league champion Bullets with their finest performance to date.

Freshman Emily McGarrigle continued her remarkable rookie season with an 8-over 80 on the par-72, 6054-yard Foxchase Golf Course, the site of next week's conference championship. McGarrigle outpaced Gettysburg's Samantha Sessa, the reigning CC Player of the Year, by a stroke to take home individual medalist honors and match freshman teammate Rebecca Chiger for the lowest score in program history.

Ursinus has rewritten the record books over the past year. The previous school record of 355 was established at the fall Ursinus Invitational, and was already 17 strokes better than the old mark.

Chiger and sophomore Sara Thompson also recorded season lows, both carding an 86 to tie for fifth overall. Freshman Matison Leand scored a 92.

Senior Rebecca Honor shot an even 100, junior Julia Senkevich posted a 110, and sophomore Shelby Bryant ended with a 118.

Gettysburg's Sarah Hansen and Fontaine McFeaters each finished with an 82 to tie for third, two strokes off the winning pace set by McGarrigle.

The women's golf team returns to Foxchase for the CC championship, a two-day tournament that begins Saturday, April 23.
