Women's Golf Wins Muhlenberg Invitational

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's golf team utilized a balanced effort up and down the lineup to overcome windy, rainy conditions and claim the team title at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Monday. The squad's top five, separated by only four strokes, all finished within the top 12 as the Bears captured their second tournament championship of the season – and the second in school history.

Ursinus finished with a team score of 379, six shots in front of second-place Eastern, on the par-70, 5811-yard course at Lehigh Country Club. The host Mules tied with Alvernia for third place with a 395, and Albright rounded out the field with a 429.

Freshman Emily McGarrigle paced the Bear contingent with a 93 (+23), good for a tie for sixth. Fellow rookie Rebecca Chiger was one shot behind with a 94 (T-8th), while senior Rebecca Honor and sophomore Sara Thompson carded matching rounds of 96 to tie for 10th. Freshman Matison Leand closed Ursinus' top five with a 97, which placed her 12th in a field of 26 golfers.

McGarrigle registered six pars, including four of the last five holes, while Thompson had five and Chiger four; Thompson notched two sets of back-to-back pars, and McGarrigle and Chiger each parred the 17th and 18th holes.

Muhlenberg's Aine Filler captured the individual crown with a nine-over 79.

Ursinus takes a week off before hosting its spring invitational on Tuesday, April 12 at Stonewall.
