Golf Teams Tee Up Spring Season

ELKTON, Md. – Battling chilly, blustery conditions, the Ursinus College golf teams teed up the spring portion of their schedule by hosting the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic at Patriots Glen on Saturday. The men finished 10th in a field of 12, while the women placed fourth among five complete squads.

Junior Anthony Barbine led the way for the Ursinus men, carding an 82 (+10) to tie for 20th overall among a lineup of 65 golfers.

Sophomore Ryan Crawford shot an 85 to finish in a tie for 32nd, and freshman Bennett Collins was right on his heels with an 86. Sophomore Max Schwartz carded a 91 to round out the Bears' top four scores, with freshman Noah Steiner – who shot an even 100 – competing as an individual.

Ursinus compiled a team tally of 344 (+56) for the day. Swarthmore's A team took home the team title with a cumulative score of 305 (+17), all five of its golfers registering sub-80 rounds. Dan Altieri paced the Garnet with a 1-over 73 to tie with Post's Carlos Fernandez Herzog for the individual crown.

Post was nine strokes back of Swarthmore at 314, with Muhlenberg third at 317. Cabrini and Penn State Harrisburg tied for fourth (327), followed by Stevens (329), Wesley (331), Immaculata (336), Neumann (338), Ursinus (344), Swarthmore's B team (353), and Widener (363).

On the women's side, the Bears carded a team tally of 376 (+88) in their spring opener. Millersville cruised to the team title with a count of 337, LIU-Post was second with a 351, East Stroudsburg (372) just edged out Ursinus for third, and Fairmont State (430) was a distant fifth.

Millersville's Danielle Green finished with a 6-over 78 to edge LIU-Post's Hannah Pohalski for the individual title.

Freshmen Rebecca Chiger and Emily McGarrigle notched impressive rounds for the Bears, each finishing within the top nine and ties in a field of 29; Chiger shot an 87 to tie for sixth, and McGarrigle fired an 88 to land in a tie for ninth.

Fellow rookie Matison Leand shot a 92, while senior Rebecca Honor (109) and sophomore Sara Thompson (119) rounded out Ursinus' tally. Junior Julia Senkevich recorded a 112 as an individual.
