Konstanzer Reaches 1,500 as Women's Hoops Blows by Bryn Mawr

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Lydia Konstanzer chiseled her name deeper into the Ursinus College women's basketball record book, unlocking another milestone and helping to lead the Bears to a dominating 76-47 Centennial Conference victory over Bryn Mawr.

Konstanzer scored 16 points to go over 1,500 for her career, becoming just the third player in team history and the 18th in the CC to reach that mark. In the process, she moved into second on the program's all-time scoring list. Konstanzer also grabbed 10 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and made all four of her free throws.

Konstanzer's latest achievement was far from the only highlight on a day in which Ursinus (7-12, 6-8) picked up a badly needed victory to snap a six-game slide. Aliyah Stephens moved closer to 1,000 career points with a game-high 19 markers, and Marisa Morano flirted with a triple-double before finishing with nine points, a career-high 10 assists, seven steals, and six rebounds. Alyssa Martin notched a career-high 13 points, and all but one Ursinus player who entered the game got on the scoresheet.

The lead switched hands several times in the opening stanza before the Bears went ahead to stay at 9-8 on a lay-up by Stephens following a steal and dish by Konstanzer.

The Bears' senior star made four consecutive free throws over the ensuing minutes, the last of which made her the third player in school history to score 1,500 career points. Two possessions later, Morano found Konstanzer inside for a bucket that put her past Hall of Famer Mary Kate Daley and into second on the all-time scoring list.

Ursinus led by just four (17-13) after one, but the second quarter was an avalanche in favor of the home side. Alyssa Martin buried a pair of 3-pointers during an 11-0 run that doubled up the Owls, 30-15, and Stephens kicked off a 12-0 burst by banking in a triple from the left wing. Konstanzer followed with consecutive layups before Morano nailed a 3 and scored after picking a Bryn Mawr player's pocket in the back court.

Morano put together a remarkable all-around effort in the first half, stuffing the stat sheet with five points, five rebounds, and seven assists, already enough for a career high. The Bears forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 17 points in the opening half.

Bryn Mawr (1-18, 0-14) opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run, but the Bears roared back with eight straight of their own, including a 3-pointer by Stephens and a pair of free throws from Martin.

It was all over but the shouting from there, and everyone got in on the fun in the fourth quarter. Martin and Elizabeth Burke each had five points and a 3-pointer in the frame, while Erin Devine also knocked down a trey and Katherine Eckhoff made a pair of lay-ups.

The Bears forced 27 turnovers and held a 33-4 disparity in points off those miscues and racking up 19 fast-break points.

Led by Morano, Ursinus finished with 19 assists on 29 made field goals.
