Women's Hoops Doomed by Dips' Early Blitz

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team was unable to keep up with red-hot Franklin & Marshall, conceding a big early deficit on the way to a 76-51 Centennial Conference setback.

Aliyah Stephens had another huge game offensively, pouring in a game-high 25 points to lead the Bears for the third straight outing, but the Diplomats made 12 of their first 16 shots from the field and led 26-10 after a sizzling first quarter. The gap swelled to 21 points by halftime and to 25 in the second half.

Stephens finished 9-for-16 from the field and 7-of-11 the line, moving to within 79 points of 1,000 for her career. She added four steals, three rebounds, and a block.

Lydia Konstanzer put up another double-double in support of Stephens, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five steals and three blocks.

Ursinus (6-11, 5-7) had no answers for the Diplomats' high-scoring trio of Kenna Williams, Kristin Hamill, and Sarosha Parsons, who scored the visitors' first nine points en route to a 15-point, 10-rebound afternoon. Williams produced 23 points and 16 boards, while Hamill chipped in 12 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists.

The teams were knotted at 4-4 in the opening minutes before Parsons ignited a 7-0 run with a three-point play. Ursinus was still well in it after a jumper by Gabby Downs made it 13-10, but the hosts went scoreless for the final 4:50 of the frame as F&M stretched the lead out to 16 with a 13-0 burst.

Emily Moran opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer, one of three on the day, and the rout was on.

The Diplomats cooled down considerably after their hot start, finishing at 42.6 percent from the field. They dominated the glass to the tune of a 58-30 discrepancy, which included 24 offensive rebounds. Williams racked up 10 offensive caroms by herself, helping to account for a 19-7 edge in second-chance points.

Ursinus will look to snap a five-game skid when it hosts Haverford next Wednesday night.
