BALTIMORE, Md. – A dismal shooting performance from all over the court, combined with a rough start, left the Ursinus College women's basketball team to a 68-39 loss at Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

Playing for the first time in 2018, the Bears looked rusty from the start. They missed their first seven shots and trailed 8-0 before finally getting on the board, and after the Blue Jays ended the first quarter with a 17-6 advantage, the margin only dipped into single digits twice the rest of the way.

Ursinus (6-6, 3-4) shot 25.0 percent from the field (16 for 64), 10.0 percent from 3-point range (1 for 10), and 42.9 percent at the free-throw line (6 of 14). Sophomore Lydia Konstanzer paired 14 points with nine rebounds to lead the Bears, while frontcourt mate Toni Suler added eight points and five blocks.

Sophia Way poured in 22 points for Johns Hopkins (6-6, 5-2), which made seven 3-pointers, missed only one of its 12 free throws, and held a 49-37 rebounding edge. Lexie Scholtz flirted with a triple-double with ten points, ten rebounds, and six assists for the Blue Jays.

Suler gave the Bears their first points at the 5:19 mark of the first quarter, but baskets by freshmen Sydney Fail and Aliyah Stephens were all the visitors could muster in the frame.

An 8-2 spurt that included a 3-pointer by senior Rachel Guy and a three-point play courtesy of Konstanzer closed the gap to 23-14 with 3:49 left in the second period, but Johns Hopkins scored the next seven points to pull away. The margin expanded to 32 early in the fourth quarter.

In addition to her near double-double, Konstanzer had four steals and went 4 for 5 at the foul line.

The women's basketball team hosts Washington College on Tuesday, January 9.
