Women's Basketball Tops Eastern

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team wrapped up its weekend with a victory at the Rinso Marquette Tournament hosted by Lebanon Valley College, topping Eastern by a 54-44 count in the consolation game.

The Bears (2-1) were led by sophomore Lydia Konstanzer, who finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds for her 11th career double-double. She was the only Bear to reach double-digit scoring and added an assist and a steal on the day. Her rebound total was one shy of tying her career best.

Konstanzer led the squad on a 7-0 run at the end of the first half to jump to a 26-19 shortly before the halftime whistle blew, grabbing an offensive board and putting it back towards the end of the run. The entire outburst was a group effort from the Bears, as freshman Maya Kornfeld had done the exact same on the prior basket, pulling down a rebound on the offensive end and laying in a basket. Freshman Aliyah Stephens assisted on a bucket by classmate Marisa Morano to start the run and completed the series of events with a free throw.

The Eagles (0-3) pulled within a duece on a 3-pointer on their first possession of the third quarter, but junior Brielle Clarke answered with one of her own for Ursinus and Konstanzer followed with a jumper to stretch the lead back to seven at 31-24. Eastern could get no closer than six the rest of the way.

Morano and Kornfield led the scoring charge from the bench, each scoring four points, as the Bears' reserves combined for 13 points. Stephens chipped in three points, two assists, and a pair of rebounds.

Sophomore Toni Suler powered the defense, leading the team in blocks (3) and steals (2). She also dropped in six points on two buckets from the floor and a 2-for-2 day on free throws.

Clarke and senior Rachel Guy did all the work from beyond the arc. Clarke drilled one of two 3-pointers that she attempted, while Guy nailed her only shot of the day from 3-point distance.

Junior Kaci McNeave dished out a team-high three assists from the point and added two points, an assist and a steal as well.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they host their home opener against Centennial Conference foe Haverford.
