Women's Basketball tripped up by Dickinson, 63-62

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Dickinson sophomore guard Jennifer Smith made a layup with ten seconds left as the Red Devils (3-13 CC, 5-16) defeated Ursinus (5-9 CC, 7-14) 63-62 in women's basketball play at Helfferich Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Ursinus had one last look at the basket, but, could not get the shot to fall. The two teams shared the lead 15 teams with the score being tied nine times.

For the Bears, junior guard Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) continued her push toward 1,000 career points as she led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) had 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting on the day.

Dickinson got 13 points from sophomore guard Mary Martin, and 12 points from freshman forward Kassidy Lesher in the win.

Ursinus took its biggest lead of the game midway through the first half as with 9:22 left, Polimeni completed a three-point play and gave the Bears a 18-13 lead. Dickinson would come back and score five straight points, before another three-point play, this time from junior forward Caroline Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) with 5:08 left gave the Bears a 21-18 lead.

Dickinson would close the half on a 7-2 run to take a 25-23 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Ursinus held a four-point lead with 4:40 left at 54-50 on layup by Porada, before the Red Devils went on 4-0 run to tie the game at 54-all.

The Bears would have the lead one last time with 22 seconds left when junior forward Elana Roadcloud (Roslyn, Pa./Springside School) scored on a jumper, bringing the Bears back in front after trailing by three.

Ursinus had a 42-26 edge on the glass in the loss, and will head to F&M on Wednesday.
