Women's Basketball can't hold on against DeSales, 62-51

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The Ursinus women's basketball team held a five point lead going into halftime, but a second half surge from DeSales, downed the Bears 62-51, Saturday afternoon at Helffrich Hall.

Ursinus drops to 3-7 on the season, on a three-game losing skid while DeSales improves to 8-4 on the season.

Leading the Bears were juniors Alyssa Polimeni, and Jessica Porada both contributing 12 points, while Porada scooped 13 rebounds brining her total to 96 rebounds in the first 10 games, second in the Centennial Conference.

In a closely contested first half, the Bears and Bulldogs were dead-locked until late in the half when Ursinus began to pull away with three point shot by Rachel Guy spurring a 14-7 run to end the half, in the lead 33-28.

Opening the second half DeSales were able to clamp down defensively, keeping Ursinus to 18 points and holding the Bears to a 22.6% shooting from the floor.

Tied with seven minutes to go, the Bulldogs were able to pull off a 16-5 run to surge ahead finishing the game 62-51.

The Bears will be back in action at Cabrini, Monday night at 6:30.
