Women's Basketball takes out Swarthmore, 69-60

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus won its first Centennial Conference game as the Bears (2-3, 1-2 Centennial) defeated Swarthmore (1-4, 0-3 Centennial) at Helfferich Hall Tuesday night by a 69-60 count.

Ursinus was led by 15 points from junior guard Alyssa Polimeni and 14 points from sophomore guard Gianna Pownall. Junior forward Caroline Shimrock had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bears.

Swarthmore was led by a game-high 30 points from Elle Larson, who also had a game-high 14 rebounds.

Ursinus took care of the ball during the game, not committing a turnover until 15 minutes left to go in the second half, and only turning the ball over six times.

Shimrock and Polimeni combined to hit five of Ursinus' seven three-pointers on the night.

Ursinus trailed 16-6 with 13:48 left in the first half, and then went on a 23-6 run over the span of eight minutes to go up 29-24 on a pair of foul shots from Pownall.

Pownall finished with four steals for Ursinus, who heads to Albright on Saturday.
