Women's Basketball Downed by Johns Hopkins, 58-52

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – Behind junior forward Jessica Porada, the Ursinus women's basketball team held a slim lead late in the second half, but couldn't hold off Johns Hopkins, being stopped by the Blue Jays 58-52, Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.

Ursinus drops their second straight Centennial Conference match, falling to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference. Hopkins improves to 3-1 and 2-0 in the Centennial.

The Bears were led by Porada, netting 22 points and scooping up five rebounds. Junior forward Caroline Shimrock also contributed on the afternoon with nine points and a team leading six rebounds.

Ursinus was beaten off the boards, getting outrebounded 45-30 by the Blue Jays.

Opening the first half, Ursinus took an early 8-5 lead within the first five minutes of the contest, but the Blue Jays battled back behind a pair of layups from Beatriz Williams, taking the lead. Ursinus would make a run from Porada's 12 first half points, but Johns Hopkins held a slim 24-23 lead going into the half.

Both teams battled back and forth to open the second half with the lead changing hands four times in five minutes. The Blue Jays kept a slim lead through the second half, until Adrienne Cellucci hit a clutch three-point shot to tie the game with five minutes left to go.

After two made free throws from Shimrock, Ursinus took a 50-48 lead, but the Blue Jays were able to put away the game going on a 10-2 run in the final three minutes.
