COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team came one step closer to clinching a Centennial Conference playoff berth on Wednesday evening by defeating visiting Haverford College by a score of 65-52.
The Bears were lead by senior guard Alli Rosati (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) who poured in 13 in the effort while senior guard Kristy George (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) contributed twelve. Senior guard Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and sophomore guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) each netted 10 for Ursinus.
Haverford was lead by Rachel Baskin who netted thirteen while Dominique Meeks netted 12 in the loss.
A flurry by both teams over the last five minutes meant the Bears, after stretching out a six-point lead with 6:13 remaining, went into halftime tied with the Fords, 28-28.
Ursinus opened the second half on a 15-6 run over the first seven minutes, extending their lead to 43-34. A basket and made foul shot from Meeks halted the rally and brought the Fords within six. The Bears continued to battle however, drawing out a commanding twelve-point lead with eight minutes remaining in the contest.
The Bears came into the game needing just one win in their last three outings to secure a berth in the Centennial Conference playoffs. By winning, they move into a two-way tie with Muhlenberg for third in the division.
Ursinus takes the court again Saturday, paying a visit to conference-leading Johns Hopkins. Tip is set for 1 pm.
