Softball splits pair of games with Elizabethtown

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa -  The Ursinus College softball team split another series winning game one against Elizabethtown College 7-4 and dropping game two 10-6, thursday evening at Eleanor Snell Field.

After today's double header the Bears are 7-13 while the Blue Jays take their record to 11-13.

Sophomore Zoe Heinke had an impressive day going 3-6 with four runs, four RBI's and hitting her second home run of the season.

Junior Kaylee Werner led the Blue Jays going 3-6 with three runs, three RBI's and a home run.

In the top of the first, Elizabethtown jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a leadoff single, walk and a double from Jess White to drive in one run, but Zoe Heinke held the Blue Jays off only giving up a sac fly the rest of the inning.

Ursinus answered in the bottom half of the inning when Caitlin Whelan and Nikki Djambinov hit back to back doubles to tie up the game 2-2 at the end of the first.

After the Blue Jays were put down in order in the top of the second, Deanna Madison hit her first career home run to right center field, andput the Bears on top 3-2 at the end of the second.

At the bottom of the third the Blue Jays took back their lead by scoring another two runs making it 4-3.

The Bears were back on the board in the bottom of the fifth taking the lead on a two out bases loaded single by Morgan Worthington to drive in two runs to pull ahead 5-4. In the bottom of the sixth Zoe Heinke put away the game with a two run double down the right field line, finishing with the win 7-4.

For game two Elizabethtown jumped out quickly with five runs in the first, but the lead was cut in the bottom half of the inning with two run home run by Zoe Heinke, finishing out the first 5-2.

The Blue Jays added another three runs on four hits to push it to 8-2 in the top of the second.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the third Blue Jays pitcher Laura Tomasetti threw a wild pitch scoring one run and moving runners to second and third with one out and Nikki Djambinov at the plate.  On a full count, Djambinov drove the pitch for a double clearing the bases and helping the bears close the gap down 8-5.

In the final inning the Blue Jays added two more runs with a solo home run from Kaylee Werner and an RBI single. Ursinus would load the bases with one out but could only bring home one run, falling 10-6.

Ursinus will continue their Centennial Conference schedule with a double header at home against McDaniel, Saturday April 12th at 1 PM.
