Softball splits with Bullets

GETTYSBURG, PA - Sophomore Zoe Heinke hit her first home run of her career,  driving in three runs to help Urinus take game one against Gettysburg  Sunday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field. The Bears (6-12, 2-6 CC) split the double header with the Bullets (13-6, 3-3 CC) taking game one by a score of 5-4 before getting shut out in game two 8-0 in six innings.

Gettysburg was led by freshman Meghan Hisgen going 4-7 with 4 runs and 3 RBI's.

In game one, the Bears were first on the board with a one out double to left field by Catlin Whealen, driving Delia Mercurio for the first run. In the bottom of the first the Bullets answered with a sac fly by Maggie Maguire to tie the game at 1-1.

Ursinus grabbed the lead with a two out three run home run by Heinke to take the lead 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but Gettysburg continued to keep the game close by scoring three runs off five singles making it 4-4 going into the fifth inning.

A Shelby Edelson single in the top of the fifth was driven in by a triple from Deanna Madison to put the winning run across the plate as the Bears held on winning 5-4.

Game two was a different story as the Bullets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, and put the game away with another four runs in the fifth and sixth inning. The Bears were held to only five hits while Gettysburg scored eight runs off eleven hits and didn't record an error.

The Bears will hit the field April 10th for a double header at home against Elizabethtown.
