Softball closes out a winner with a sweep of Swarthmore

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team closed out its season with a sweep of Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Ursinus defeated the Garnet 2-0 while only needed five innings to defeat the Garnet (19-19, 3-13 Centennial) 9-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Ursinus (15-18, 8-8 Centennial) scored in the bottom of the first when junior right fielder Caitlin Whelan flied out to center scoring senior first baseman Allison Pfrommer.

In the sixth, sophomore center fielder Delia Mercurio singled home freshman designated player Zoe Heinke.

Between those two runs, senior pitcher Kelly Schymanski allowed just eight hits to get the win.

In the second game, Ursinus scored four in the first and two more in the second, while adding three runs in the third to end the game early.

Whelan finished game two 3-for-3 with three RBI, while senior catcher Emelie McFarland was 1-for-3 with a two-run double. Senior shortstop Amy Gentile and Schymanski each had two hits on the day.

Schymanski got the win in game two, allowing four hits.
