Softball swept by Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team was swept by Muhlenberg in a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bears dropped game one 2-0, while the Bears (11-18, 6-7 Centennial) lost game two to the Mules (24-7-1, 12-2 Centennial) 11-3 in five innings.

In game one, the Bears were held to just three hits as Amy Gentile, Kelly Schymanski and Delia Mercurio all hit safely. Gentile hit a triple, while Schymanski had a double.

Muhlenberg won the game in the sixth with two runs.

Schymanski took the loss in game one, striking out three and walking three.

In game two, Ursinus took an early 1-0 lead before Muhlenberg scored six in the bottom of the first to put the game out of reach. Ursinus would add two more in the second but could not get any closer.

In game two, Allison Pfrommer was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. While Gentile and Caitlin Whelan each hit a RBI.

Schymanski took the loss in game two, as she allowed six earned runs in 1/3 of an inning. Zoe Heinke pitched four innings in relief, striking out two and walking three.

Ursinus is scheduled to finish game two of its doubleheader with Haverford on Sunday at 2. The game will be resumed in the top of the tenth with Haverford up 3-2 with the bases loaded and one out.
