Softball swept at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader with Elizabethtown on Sunday, as the Bears (10-16) were blanked in both games. The Bears fell 1-0 in game one, while coming up on the short end of a 2-0 decision to the Blue Jays (14-14) in game two.

In the opener, Ursinus was held to just six hits as senior shortstop Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) was 2-for-3, while senior designated player Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), sophomore catcher Nikki Djambinov (Ventnor City, N.J./Atlantic City), sophomore center fielder Delia Mercurio (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township) and junior third baseman Monica Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) all hit safely.

Freshman pitcher Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) took the loss, falling to 4-5 as she allowed the one run which was unearned. She struck out four and walked two while allowing only three hits.

In game two, Gentile was 3-for-4, while Schymanski and Heinke all had hits.

Heinke lost game two, walking six and allowing eight hits.

Ursinus hosts Haverford on Tuesday. The two teams are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference with two weeks to go.
