Softball falls to nationally-ranked Moravian

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Facing nationally-ranked Moravian, the Ursinus College softball team was swept by the 20th-ranked Greyhounds at Snell Field on Friday afternoon.

In game one, Ursinus dropped a 5-2 decision while the Bears (8-8) lost 8-0 in six innings to the Greyhounds (15-3) in game two.

The opener saw Moravian strike first with three runs in the top of the second on RBI hits by senior Amanda Dizinno, senior Alyssa Fegely and sophomore Dior George. In the second, Ursinus got a run of its own when freshman infielder Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) hit a sacrifice fly scoring junior infielder Monica Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East).

Moravian added runs in the third and fourth on RBI hits from sophomore Jenn Dalickas and junior Miranda Sergas.

In the fifth, Ursinus got its second run on a RBI double by senior catcher Emelie McFarland (Sykesville, Md./Century) that scored senior pitcher Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown).

For Moravian, George, Sergas, Dalickas and Dizinno each finished with two hits.

Ursinus was led by two hits from Schymanski, McFarland and Bonitatis. McFarland had two doubles on the day.

Schymanski took the loss, allowing two earned runs while striking out three to drop to 4-4. Moravian's Fegley got the win, striking out five to improve to 6-1.

In game two, Moravian had 11 hits and scored six runs in the sixth inning to end the game early.

George and starting pitcher Lindsay Sullivan each had two hits in the win, while sophomore pinch hitter Lizzie Mack had a three-run hit late in the game.

Ursinus got two hits, one from McFarland and one from Heinke.

Heinke took the loss falling to 4-3, as she struck out three and walked one. Sullivan pitched a two-hitter, striking out one.

Ursinus jumps back into conference play on Tuesday with Washington College.
