MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ursinus College softball team broke out the bats on Wednesday morning, scoring 25 runs in two games as the Bears moved to 4-2 on the season with a 15-6 win over York (Pa.) in five innings and then defeated Eastern 10-0 in six innings in game two.

These 25 runs came on a day when the Bears were battling 40 degree temperatures and winds gusting to 35 miles per hour that swirled like they were playing in Wrigley Field.

In game one, senior third baseman Monica Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. She just missed the cycle in the opener. The Bears went for 16 hits, with senior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Frankinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Senior left fielder Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), sophomore outfielder Delia Mercurio (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township) and freshman pitcher Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) each had two hits.

Trailing 3-1 after two, Ursinus broke the game open with eight runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth.

The 15 runs were more than enough for Heinke, who struck out one and walked seven as she moved to 2-0 on the year.

In game two against Eastern, Schymanski fired a one-hitter as she struck out 11 and walked just three.

Pfrommer again went 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Schymanski helped her own cause with two hits. Bonitatis hit an inside the park home run.

Ursinus finishes out its South Carolina run with games against Randolph and Penn State-Hazleton.
