Softball sweeps Washington

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team made it a clean sweep on Wednesday afternoon, taking both ends of a doubleheader with Washington.

The Bears won game one 7-0, with all seven runs coming in the last two innings. In game two, Ursinus (16-2, 6-0 Centennial) blanked Washington (8-12, 3-5 Centennial) 3-0.

In the opener, Ursinus plated in the fifth, while adding three in the sixth. Sophomore centerfielder Kelly Kalovcak (Pottsville, Pa./Minersville Area) had a two-run double in the inning, while freshman catcher Emeile McFarland (Sykesville, Md./Century) and junior third baseman Kristen Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) had RBI hits in the inning.

In the sixth, Kalovcak, freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and senior designated player Jamie Miles (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) had RBI singles.

Kalovcak went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while freshman first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) had two hits.

Senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) got the win, improving to 12-1. She struck out 13 and allowed just two hits.

In game two, Ursinus scored one in the third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore catcher Rachael Vietheer (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), which scored Pfrommer who had tripled in the inning.

In the sixth, freshman left fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) and sophomore second baseman Abby Sido (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) scored runs for a 3-0 lead.

Pfrommer finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in game number two.

Davis-Macedonia got the win in game two, fanning seven and scattering five hits.

Ursinus hosts Dickinson on Saturday.
