Softball sweeps Cabrini

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus swept both ends a doubleheader with Cabrini on Thursday in non-conference softball play.

The Bears (10-2) won both games over the Cavaliers (7-4) 2-0.

In the first game, Ursinus took a 1-0 after the first winning as freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) flied out to center scoring freshman left fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley).

In the fourth, Ursinus scored another run as senior designated player Jamie Miles (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) doubled home sophomore catcher Rachael Vietheer (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage).

That would be all senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) would need, as she limited Cabrini to just two hits. She struck out ten and walked two.

Vietheer and freshman first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) each had two hits in the game.

In game two, Pfrommer drove in both runs as in the bottom of the third on a one-out double that scored freshman centerfielder Caitlin Higgins (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Gentile.

Again, Cabrini was held to just two hits as freshman pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) pitched five innings striking out four. Davis-Macedonia pitched the final two innings for the save, as she struck out three.

Ursinus opens Centennial play on Sunday as the Bears travel to McDaniel.
