CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's cross country team saved its best performance of the season for last, placing three of its runners in the top 100 and establishing a new program record by finishing 19th at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales.
Junior James McDaid headed the pack with a 48th-place individual showing for the Bears, who handled cold and windy conditions with aplomb and bested last year's 22nd-place effort for the top spot in school history. Ursinus was nearly in the top third of a 52-team field and landed ahead of Centennial Conference rivals Gettysburg (21st) and Franklin & Marshall (31st).
McDaid's 27:23 (a pace of 5:31 per mile) on the 8-kilometer course was enough to wind up inside the top-50 in a massive field of over 350 competitors. The junior improved his placement from last year's NCAA regional by 30 positions.
Sophomore John Haase was second across the line for Ursinus, placing 76th with a mark of 27:55. Junior Logan Mazullo was not far off at 28:08 (93rd overall).
Senior Andrew Voyack clocked a time of 28:45 to finish 136th in his final regional race.
Freshman Marcos Maciel was the 200th man to finish in a time of 29:48, while sophomore John DeLia (30:20) and freshman Ed Martinez (30:51) completed the Bears' top seven.
