Men's Track & Field Ascends to Second in Latest Regional Rankings

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College men's outdoor track and field team jumped two spots in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Metro Regional Rankings as they found themselves ranked No. 2 in the latest rankings released on Tuesday afternoon.

 

 

The Bears earned 612.81 rating points in the poll to rank second in the Metro region which is the highest the team has ever climbed in the regional rankings. Ursinus continues to rank first among Centennial teams in the regional rankings with Haverford placing just behind in fifth with 494.49 rating points. The Bears sit just behind Rowan in the metro regional rankings, who also hold the number one team ranking in Division III.

 

 

The program made history over the weekend by claiming the 2022 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field title, the first in program history. It was the second overall in program history after winning the 1987 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship. The team racked up 215 points during the three-day meet to dethrone seven-time defending champion Johns Hopkins.

 

 

Ursinus won a grand total of 14 medals over the weekend behind eight golds, four silver, and two bronze. The Bears saw standout performances from the sprints all the way to the throws at Patterson Field aid their rise in the rankings.  

 

 

Senior Tyler Reilly cemented his name across the performance lists at Centennial Conference Championships by winning four medals with two being from individuals and two from relays. On the individual side, Reilly won 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 48.85 and won the 200-meter dash with another personal best time of 21.90. Junior Daniel Tabor set a new personal best in the 400 by earning his silver medal with a time of 49.05 and finished fifth in the 200 on a time of 22.45, also a personal best. Tabor earned three medals on the weekend behind two relay golds and one silver and holds the third-fastest time for the Centennial in the 400 and fifth-fastest for the 200.

 

 

Junior Daniel Maloney earned his second career medal in the 110-meter hurdles on his time of 15.60 and still holds the second-fastest time in the Centennial this season at 15.08.  Sophomore Devon Greaves and freshman Mason Jolivette now rank fourth and fifth in the Centennial for the 400 hurdles after posting times of 56.12 and 56.43, respectively.

 

 

Senior Zach Crebbin had a strong weekend at the Centennial Championships after winning his first gold at a Centennial Championship meet after taking first place in the high jump. Crebbin cleared the bars at 1.91 meters and grabbed the silver medal in the long jump behind his career-best jump of 6.85 meters. He holds the third-highest mark in each event among the Centennial Conference. Freshman Trey Rolle set a personal best as well in the high jump at Centennial's by also clearing the bars at 1.91 meters and finished fourth overall.

 

 

Freshman Brody Myers easily claimed the pole vault title at the Centennial Championships after posting a mark of 4.61 meters to once again best his own outdoor season school record. Myers' five marks throughout the 2022 season are the five-highest in the Centennial Conference this season.

 

 

The Bears carried the throws over the weekend as Senior Nick Galbraith won three medals behind two golds and one bronze.  He won the hammer throw for the second time in his career and still maintains the top spot in the Centennial with his best mark of 51.67 meters. Galbraith also claimed the shot put crown after throwing for a mark of 15.56 meters that is the second best this season for the Centennial. Galbraith's career best mark of 48.83 meters vaulted his way up to the fifth-best for the season in the javelin behind only freshman Chase Shaneman (51.55 meters) and sophomore Eric Tanz (48.87 meters). Junior Isaiah Battle won silver in the hammer and the discus throw over and still holds the second best season marks for the Centennial in each event.

 

 

Ursinus flexed its muscles in the relay races by medaling in all three races at the Centennial Championships. The 4x100 relay team of senior Octavious Carter, Reilly, Crebbin, and Tabor set a new school, conference, and championship meet record on their time of 41.94. Reilly, Tabor, Greaves, and junior Payton Stanziani also took gold with their time of 3:19.62 which just missed topping their Centennial leading mark of 3:18.82.
