Sprints, Throws Dominate in Men's T&F Debut

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Griffin McMann's record-breaking hammer throw on Friday night paved the way for a huge performance for the Ursinus College's men's track and field team in Saturday's spring opener at the Muhlenberg Invitational.

The Bears won nine events overall in a well balanced effort also headlined by Tyler Reilly, who took top prize in both the 100- and 400-meter dash. Reilly's time of 11.63 seconds marked a new PR in the 100, where Daniel Tabor (11.83) and Tyree Williams-Jackson (11.85) also notched personal bests to complete a 1-2-3 podium sweep.

The sweep was the first of three in the sprints for Ursinus. Williams-Jackson led the way in the 200 with a 23.95, with Max Gadsden in second with a PR 23.95 and Muheer Mardirosyan (24.74) in third.

Reilly won the 400 in 50.85, while Dylan Simms claimed a PR (51.45) to finish second and Dolan Cox (54.19) took third.

McMann made his hammer debut a memorable one on Friday night, uncorking a heave of 44.29 meters to edge teammate Nick Galbraith's former record from the 2019 season. George Psaradakis logged a big PR at 38.12 meters to finish in third place.

The Bears dominated the throwing events on Saturday as well. Isaiah Battle claimed top billing in the discus at 40.96 meters, with McMann (39.35), Christian Torres (39.20), Harrison Bonanny (PR 35.46), and Tim Holzapfel (35.17) completing a run of the top five place-winners.

Evan Giannetti won the javelin with a collegiate-best 53.74 meters, while Riley Grourke was right behind with a PR of his own at 52.33 meters.

McMann made it a double with a winning toss of 13.72 meters in the shot put, where Galbraith was third (12.51).

Zach Crebbin won the high jump at 1.93 meters, while Tabor was runner-up in the triple jump (12.41 m).

Reilly joined Simms, Josh Klingele, and Crebbin to claim a thrilling 4x400-meter relay finish, crossing .09 seconds ahead of Muhlenberg in 3:31.17 to win the event.

Daniel Maloney was runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a collegiate-best 16.73, and Devon Greaves took third (17.91). Greaves also placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:00.44), where Brandon Slaboda was third (1:02.16).

Giles Daly claimed second place in both the steeplechase (9:44.84) and 5k (15:54.60); Jesse Wun's 16:11.54 was good for a PR and third, while Kyle Berardi finished fourth (16:12.18).

Marcos Maciel's 4:18.38 in the 1500 meters was enough to finish in second place.
